BetterLesson Partners with NEA on Master Teacher Project

BetterLesson announced a partnership with the National Education Association (NEA) to build the first educator-created body of knowledge around effective teaching. According to the company:

“The Master Teacher Project is a natural outgrowth of BetterLesson’s mission to connect teachers in order to measurably improve instruction. Generously funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Project aims to create exemplary Common Core aligned, year-long courses, units and lessons. This content will be freely available to teachers everywhere beginning with math, grades 6-12. Even more, this project hopes to provide real recognition and professional opportunities to exceptional teachers around the country.”

Betsy Corcoran of edSurge writes:

“BetterLesson, which started by offering free lesson plans, took a big step toward broadening its reach by teaming with the National Education Association to capture how “master teachers” teach. ‘The most important part of this is we’re providing teachers with the direct resources that are going to make a difference for them and for kids,’ says Bill Raabe, Senior Director of the NEA’s Center for Great Public Schools. NEA is providing $3.6 million for the program.”

28 Master Teachers have been selected for the pilot program to create and share math lessons on the BetterLesson website. The course materials will be free to teachers and include creators’ hints, tips and reflections to help other teachers use the lesson content more easily and effectively.
