Leaders from Orijin, Medex Forensics, Societal and Terra.do — gov tech startups singled out by judges at the State of GovTech event — discuss their innovative solutions and their companies’ visions.

oward the end of 2023, startups, investors, entrepreneurs and technology companies gathered at the State of GovTech event in San Mateo, Calif., to discuss the latest innovation and technology trends, exchange best practices, network and collaborate.

The event featured four “demo day” sessions in which promising startups discussed their solutions in front of a panel of judges from both the public and private sectors. Twenty-five separate companies were evaluated based upon multiple factors including innovation, growth potential, equity, differentiation and company maturity.

On this week’s episode of “In Case You Missed It,” we are joined by four companies with the top scores as determined by the State of GovTech judges — giving them the opportunity to identify problems and present their company’s solutions to our audience.

The four featured startups are:

  1. Orijin (formerly APDS): Orijin’s vision is to break the cycle of incarceration by preparing every justice-impacted individual for sustainable employment.

  2. Medex Forensics: Medex Forensics provides examiners the newest automated tools for digital video authentication, source detection and provenance analysis.

  3. Societal: Societal leverages technology for courts as well as guardians, conservators and accountants to help protect the health and finances of those who cannot protect themselves.

  4. Terra.do: Terra is building the world’s largest platform for climate careers with the mission of getting 100 million people to work directly on climate in this decade.
