New Markets Venture Partners Promotes Elizabeth Chou to General Partner

New Markets Venture Partners today announced the promotion of Elizabeth Chou to General Partner. Since joining New Markets in 2010, Ms. Chou has played an integral role in the firm becoming a market leader, supporting early and growth stage investments in the education and workforce technology sector. Personally she has developed a reputation with entrepreneurs for her valuable strategic guidance and passion for improving education.

“We are so pleased to recognize Elizabeth’s 8+ year track record of investment and operational success with our firm, on top of her previous successful banking and private equity experience, by promoting her to General Partner,” said Mark Grovic, co-founder and General Partner at New Markets. “Her breadth of experience is tremendously additive to our senior management team.”

Ms. Chou has led a number of New Markets’ investments including Series A investments in Kickboard and Learn Platform and the firm’s recent Series C investment in Galvanize. She currently serves on the boards of Kickboard and Learn Platform and previously served at Questar Assessment. Ms. Chou was a leading voice on the Questar board and worked in close collaboration with its management team during its period of rapid growth and subsequent acquisition by ETS for $127.5M in March 2017. Additionally Ms. Chou has played a key role as a board observer at APDS, Better Lesson, Galvanize, Graduation Alliance, Moodlerooms, Presence Learning and Think Through Learning.

“Elizabeth brings smart financial rigor to every company she works with and has developed a reputation as a true friend and a trusted advisor to her CEOs,” added Jason Palmer, General Partner at New Markets.

Prior to joining New Markets, Ms. Chou was a Senior Associate at The Gladstone Companies, a family of public funds, where she focused on investing in and managing control equity and mezzanine debt investments. Before that she was an Account Executive with M&T Bank’s Middle Market Commercial and Industrial Lending Group. Ms. Chou graduated with Honors from Mount Holyoke College and received an MBA from Columbia Business School.
